Business as usual

The bright yellow sun sat high in the cloudless sky beating down relentlessly on the village. Having drastically rearranged the office Jynn now sat facing the large window looking out to the village. Shooting up to his feet as he finished reading the letter delivered to him he exclaimed "Tournament?! Now that's what Im talking about! An all or nothing brawl to see who's the strongest is right up my alley!". The robed man before him sighed as he shook his head in disbelief before speaking, "it says its for the village Genin". Jynn stopped mid jump looking at the man with a grimace as he spoke "what...you mean I dont get to fight at all?". Scampering back over to the letter Jynn raised it to his face scanning it furiously. He slumped back into his chair tossing the paper onto the desk before him as he folded his arms across his chest saying with a huff "What a ripoff".

Tonou walked silently through Suna. He had heard the news just this morning, a tournament for Genin in Kusa. It would be a perfect time for him to display his strengths and prove to those around him that he was a serious contender for the Chuunin exams. His mentor had packed him a lunch as usual, and Tonou was nibbling on bits of a rice-ball as he weaved in and out of civilian traffic. Finally he arrived at the Administration Building. Tonou walked inside, stated his business to the desk clerk and walked up the stairs to the door of the Kazekage office. He stood there for a moment, finishing his rice-ball and then knocked.

Knock. Knock.

Jynn placed his hands behind his head sighing as he reclined in his chair. He replied to the knock with an overly dismissive tone "yeah come on in". He continued to stay seated and merely swiveled it around to face the doorway.

Mianyi had read the announcement. What genin had not seen it? She'd mentioned it to her parents over dinner and had expressed some interest in at least seeing this Land of Grass, but she was clearly hesitant to go. With some encouragement from her parents, the next day Mianyi broached the question with her mentor, who encouraged the quiet girl to at least inquire about going. Perhaps the event could provide a boost of confidence to the young genin.

After fretting about it for a few hours, Mianyi gathers her resolve and heads to the Kazekage's office. When she sees another genin enter the man's office she freezes, as if doubting herself. She waits in the hallway, unsure if she should enter at the same time.

Tonou entered the office quietly, paying no heed to the other Genin frozen at the end of the hall. Eyeing the Kazekage he makes a short, forced bow. "Kazekage, I would like to join the Kusa tournament. My name is Tonou Erra." Tonou's thoughts were running wild. What if the Kazekage said no? Well, he would just attempt to go on his own anyway. Authority wasn't his forte.

Sitting up his expression changed at the boy's words. A wide smile played across his face as he shot up to his feet. Stepping towards the shinobi he spoke cheerfully "ah Tonuo I know you!". Placing a hand on his shoulder Jynn laughed heartily "I'm glad to see you stepped up to the plate all on your own, I was just about to send for you!" Looking to the still open door Jynn asked aloud "did Mianyi not come along?, I was gonna put her name forward too".

Tonou looked at the hand on his shoulder, slightly uncomfortable, but new better than to say anything. He then turned to look outside the door. "There is a girl standing outside." Tonou wondered why his mentor hadn't told him that the Kazekage would be sending for him. Perhaps he already had a spot in the tournament. Good, Tonou was going to win the tournament for Suna.

Mianyi lingers outside while gathering up her courage to knock.

Those inside the Kazekage's office would hear the faint, timid knocking of Mianyi.

Jynn waved her inside maintaining his warm smile as he spoke "come in Mianyi, Id recognize that knock anywhere!" He stepped passed Tonou and looked down to the small framed girl before him asking "let me guess youre here to ask to join the tournament too? Because like I told your counterpart here, I have been considering you two for the competition". Turning to the window that overlooked the village he made his way to the desk and took a seat gesturing to them to speak.

Mianyi enters meekly and kind of freezes for a moment before she nods at his question. "Yes, I would like to go, Kazekage-sama." She seems to brighten up at hearing that the Kazekage had already considered sending her before she arrived his office.

Tonou looks over at the girl who has just entered the office. Not taking much notice of her he turns back to the Kazekage. "I should train." A simple statement that wasn't going into a conversation. Tonou had a habit of losing focus when bored and straying off into la-la land

Mianyi avoids making eye contact with Tonou and merely nods in agreement with his statement about training.

Folding his arms across his chest he gave them a nod as he replied "so I assume that means you both are up to the task, alright then. Good luck in your training and try not to focus on winning or losing remember its about demonstrating our village's strength not setting ourselves above one another". He placed his hands on the desk before him as he continued "well if that is all you have to say you both can go about your day, I'll be seeing you two later to check up on your progress".

Tonou turns to exit without so much as a goodbye. It wasn't that he was being rude intentionally. Tonou was just an odd duck. His mind was already beyond the walls of the Administration Building and into the training grounds. He would fill some sandbags up and strap them to his body to hold him down and work on speed training. Wind, speed, and his fists would put him above the rest. It may not be the focus, but to Tonou that's all that mattered.

Mianyi nods and bows her head respectfully. "Yes, Kazekage-sama." She then turns to leave, hesitating momentarily so that Tonou can exit first. She follows behind, almost scurrying out of the Kazekage's office.
