A New Friend

Mianyi is out in one of Suna's training fields standing by herself. She looks around, as if checking for observers, before she pulls out a kunai and presses the tip of it into her thumb. Blood wells up from where metal point breaks her flesh and she winces slightly, then squeezes more blood out of her thumb. She makes a seal and then slams her hand on the ground where the blood mingles with the sand. "Kuchiyose no jutsu!"

In a puff of smoke, a very large rabbit appears, more the size of a large dog than that of a normal rabbit. Furthermore, this rabbit is wearing clothes… sort of. It has a cape and a belt with a katana attached to it. "Hello again, Yutu," Mianyi says, bowing her head in greeting to the lunar rabbit.

"Hello Mianyi, are you ready for training today?" the rabbit returns, a slight tilt of his head in return.

Tonou had been in the training grounds for some time before Mianyi had arrived. He watched her when he had finished. He was bored and had nothing better to do. After he noticed her summon his head cocked. He was trying to understand if that was a rabbit with a sword she had just summoned. Slowly and cautiously he made his way towards the pair.

Mianyi nods to the rabbit and reaches into her pouch to pull out a small knife, but stops when she sees Tonou approach. She shuffles in her typical bashful sort of manner and the rabbit picks up on her distraction.

Turning the rabbit regards Tonou with a wrinkling nose. "Ho there, boy! How's it going?" He sounds very friendly.

Behind him, Mianyi lifts a hand and waves shyly in greeting.

Tonou jumps back in a defensive stance when the rabbit talks to him. He looks from the rabbit to his fellow Genin, and then back to the rabbit. Tonou is unsure of the rabbit and perhaps a bit afraid of it. For some reason, it gives Tonou the wiggles, and he is in no hurry to get close to it. "It.... talks..?"

The rabbit twitches an ear and looks slightly irritated by this. "Of course I talk."

Mianyi can't resist giggling and takes a step forward. "Yutu this is my… team mate, Tonou. And Tonou, this is Yutu the Lunar Rabbit. I… signed a summoning contract with them. He's also going to help me train." That would be in addition to Tonou and their team leader helping her.

Tonou raised an eyebrow at Mianyi's statement. In fact he didn't just raise an eyebrow, the eyebrow took a leap right off the top of Tonou's head. "Train... with this?" Tonou side stepped around the rabbit, trying to get a better look at it in different angles. He would stare it for a moment and then step to a different side and stare at it some more. Tonou had decided that he was going to avoid the rabbit as much as possible.

Mianyi smiles, while the rabbit twitches an ear and looks offended at this close scrutiny. "Yep!" Mianyi replies. "He's really good at kenjutsu."

The rabbit gives Tonou a disapproving, like it should be so obvious. Yutu stares back at Tonou, returning the looks the boy is giving him. See how he likes to be stared at like he's some sort of freak.

Tonou narrows his eyes back at Yutu, offended by the look. "Where did you find this contract?" Tonou remembered he had brought some food to refuel from during his training. He slowly and meticulously takes out an apple. He slowly bites in to it, studying Yutu and trying to get a reaction.

Yutu watches Tonou equally closely and continues to look offended by Tonou.

"After everything that's... happened I was looking for uh… something new. And I found mention of summoning contracts and then I heard about the lunar rabbits. So I uh, met with them and signed a contract." Mianyi replies, not quite certain of how to explain all of this without going into detail, and she doesn't exactly feel particularly chatty about it.

Tonou's staring contest with Yutu seems to have drowned out his hearing because he didn't hear a word Mianyi said. Not that it mattered at this point, Tonou had well forgotten about asking. He was going to stare down this rabbit if it was the last thing he did. "How do you trust... it?"

Yutu flicks an ear in annoyance at being referred to as an it. "You should show some respect for your elders, boy," he says irritably.

Mianyi looks curiously at Tonou. "It's the nature of the contract…"

"I respect my elders that are human." Tonou turned away from Yutu, ignoring whatever else the rabbit had to say. He sat down in the sand and began to eat his lunch. Quite confident that he had enough dealings with talking rabbits today. It just wasn't natural to him. He had never been a fan of rabbits, and this one solidified that notion.

Yutu flicks another ear in annoyance before asking Mianyi, "Is he always this insolent?"

Mianyi kind of gapes, at a loss of what to say as the summons and Tonou fail to mesh. Not that she really expected Tonou and Yutu to be best friends, or even Yutu to be anything more than an ally, but still, she hadn't really expected them to get along this poorly. "He's… Tonou's a good ninja," she says to the rabbit. "And.. and that's beside the point!"

Yutu huffs in annoyance. "Well girl, are we training today or not?"

Tonou looks up from his meal and stretches out. "Mianyi, I want to see you train." Tonou would of never have expected to say such a thing, but he wanted to see this rabbit in action. His interested was locked in. Tonou pulled off his cloak and bunched it up. He then sprawled out and used the cloak as a head rest.

Mianyi looks over at Tonou in surprise, not expecting to hear that from him at all. "Um. Ok. Let's train, Yutu!" she says, moving a little bit away from Tonou so that their training doesn't spill over to where Tonou is lounging.

Mianyi pulls out a kunai and concentrates, gathering chakra at it's tip for a flying swallow style attack. With this she lunges at the rabbit with determination, swinging at it, but the augmented kunai is deftly blocked with a swing of the rabbit's sword. For a being with paws instead of hands, it wields that katana quite adeptly. The two engage in an exchange of blows, the rabbit clearly having a bit of an advantage over Mianyi with his more skilled kenjutsu training as he pushes Mianyi in combat. The fact she's fighting with a kunai against a katana also does not help, but it's a good training exercise.

Tonou turns his head left and right while watching the fight in front of him. The rabbit moves swiftly and with grace. 'The thing moves quick, but I doubt he's quicker than me.' Tonou continues to lean on his pillow, munching on his apple every now and then while watching the spar in front of him.

The spar continues between the rabbit and Mianyi, the latter accumulating a thin sheen of sweat as she struggles to keep up with the rabbit's swift moves. Mianyi appears to be visibly tiring as things continue and the spar ends with the rabbit holding his sword an inch from her neck as Mianyi pants in the training grounds. "Not bad… for a start," he clucks. "Keep working at it." With that he disappears in a small puff of smoke.

Mianyi wipes sweat from her forehead and heads over to where she left a canteen of water. She takes a long drink and then notices Tonou is still there. She actually kind of forgot he was there.

Tonou stands up and walks over to Mianyi. He pulls another apple out of his bag and hands it to her. "How is he so fast? How old is he? Where did he come from?" Tonou's questions are uncharacteristically fast. Some might get the notion he was pleased the furry friend of Mianyi had gone.

Mianyi takes the apple gratefully and bites into it, appreciating it's crisp juiciness after a difficult training session. "I'm not sure how he got that fast or how old he is. I don't think he's among the oldest of the lunar rabbits and uh, I think they live on the moon? Or maybe in a valley somewhere?" Mianyi hasn't really thought to ask Yutu about all these specifics.

Tonou looks at her indignantly and scoffs as he walks back toward his cloak in the sand. ".... trust such a thing ..." Tonou mumbles to himself all the way to his cloak and throws it on. He wanted to work with Kaze today, but instead he spent the majority of his time working on his speed and taijutsu training. Choosing one or the other is going to be difficult. But Taijutsu fighting is only going to take him so far, and he knows it by the scars on his body.

Mianyi frowns at this, wondering what has gotten into Tonou. Maybe it's some form of jealously? She decides to switch to topics more relevant to Tonou to see if that improves his mood somewhat. "How is work coming with Kaze?"

"Fine. A few adjustments here and there. I am taking him to see a Fuuinjutsu master who used to serve on the Kazekage's council. I think he has some tricks in mind." Tonou smiles at the thought of Kaze. Kaze was a miniature version of himself, designed a bit like him too. He was the grandest gift Tonou had ever received. He made him, but the parts had come from the owners of a storeroom that Mianyi and Tonou protected from a particular thief.

"It sounds like he is going to be quite a puppet when you're done working on him." Mianyi gathers up her canteen and some other tools she's brought out to the training field, putting a cloak on over herself now that she has cooled slightly from the training. "I look forward to seeing what he's capable of some time soon."

"Maybe.." Tonou decides to start making his way out of the training grounds now that Mianyi is visibly done training. After all of the training, missions, and the war the two have become friends, though Tonou would never admit to having any. It just wasn't his style.

On some level, Mianyi knows this and considers Tonou a friend, as well, but it's not really in either's personality to speak of such things. She smiles at his reply and nods, then starts to head away from the training grounds.
